Meaning of the Signet

Meaning of the Signet

The Signet of the new Logo of the University of Gdańsk draws on 5 main elements: a crown, two crosses, a shield and the first letters in the University’s name: ‚U’ and ‚G’.

These elements have been combined in an unobvious way – the crosses retain their vertical axis intertwined with the letters of the name. The crown is aesthetically coherent with the letters ‚U’ and ‚G’ and the two crosses.

The whole took on the aesthetics of pixels, chess fields, binary code, etc. The signet closes with the shape of a shield, which resembles the coat of arms of Gdańsk.

Meaning of the colours

Meaning of the colours

The idea of the colour scheme originated at themeeting point of two spaces: the sea and the sky. The basic version of the Signet is in a deep sea colour – navy blue does its job here with the association of proximity to the sea. However, it is a modern version of this colour – strong, fresh and bold.
